Om Kinson
Kinson Jim has a master's degree in Music Performance at the Norwegian Academy of Music, under the class of Tom Ottar Andreassen and Trond Magne Brekka. He holds a Diplôme de 2e cycle supérieur from the École Normale de Musique de Paris (2023) under the class of Shigenori Kudo, and a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2022), majoring in flute performance under the tutelage of Olivier Nowak, co-principal flute of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2024, Jim joined the Voksenåsen Music Academy in Oslo, where he took part in masterclasses with Gitte Marcusson, flute professor at the Royal College of Music in London, Linda Taube Sundén, solo piccolo at Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Tom Ottar Andreassen, co-solo flute at Oslo Philharmonic. He was also selected as a participant at the Penthesilea Academy in Ebensee, Austria, where he studied with Karin Bonelli (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), Philippe Boucly (former solo flutist, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra), and Gudrun Hinze (solo piccolo, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig). That same year, he participated in the Wiener Musikseminar in Vienna and studied with Ting-Wei Chen, solo flutist at Oslo Philharmonic.
In 2019, Jim joined the 29th Asian Youth Orchestra and served as one of the principal flutists, performing across cities including Shanghai, Nanjing, Tianjin, Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chiayi, Seoul, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and Tokyo.
He has attended masterclasses with distinguished flutists such as Andrea Lieberknecht, Vincent Lucas, Petri Alanko, Gareth Davis, Naomi Gyori, and Megan Sterling. Jim has performed with numerous ensembles and orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic, Christiania Blåseensemble, Academy Symphony Orchestra, Academy Symphonic Band, Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band, Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong.
As an active flautist, Jim was awarded the Outstanding Young Musician Award (equivalent to 2nd Prize) at the International Ponte Music Festival and performed Nielsen’s Flute Concerto with the Ponte Orchestra in 2022.
Jim has played with the Oslo Philharmonic as a Stipendiat for the 2023–2025 term.

As a trained flautist with international education and performance experience, I offer structured and personalized flute lessons tailored to each student’s goals and level. My teaching combines strong technical foundations with musical expression, focusing on sound production, articulation, and phrasing. I also incorporate elements of music theory, sight-reading, and performance preparation.
Lessons are typically 45 to 60 minutes long, depending on the student's needs and focus.
My lessons are suitable for students of all ages and levels – from beginners to advanced flutists preparing for auditions, conservatory entrance, or professional development.
