I like to teach the cello in a fun and exciting way. From beginners to experts, it is important to have a solid technical foundation mixed with other skills in musicality such as interpretation, improvisation, good rhythm and music theory.

I am a qualified cellist with a BMus from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and an experienced teacher. I studied classical music but also play electronic, folk and jazz styles.
English is my native language and although I am learning Norwegian now, I will be teaching in English. I will be available to begin lessons from March 1st. I would prefer to teach from my home in Nordstrand, however I can travel to your place if required (travel costs will be added to the price).

Tom Oldfield - Resume
Tom graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2015 with a BMus in music performance, focusing on classical cello. He studied with Naomi Butterworth and participated in masterclasses with Mathew Barley and Raphael Wallfisch. To expand his musicianship and improvisational skills, he had lessons with jazz violinist Omar Puente.
Tom has a diverse range of orchestral experience. Whilst working with YMSO and Orion orchestras, he performed at the Aberystwyth Music Festival and at Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Royal Albert Hall and St John's Smith Square. Tom has worked with conductors Edward Gardner, Paul Daniel and John Wilson.
In 2015, Tom began teaching at Blackheath Conservatoire and has been involved a range of courses. These include individual tuition, group classes, introductory classes and a beginners string orchestra. Tom has worked with children aged 5-14 and adults.
Tom has recorded with artists such as Oscar Jerome, Thidius, Poppy Ajudha and Maisha. He played on James Arthur's 2016 album 'Back from the Edge’.
Bands and Solo Projects -
Tom plays with several bands in a variety of styles. These include jazz, electronic, ambient, contemporary and folk. ’Stompy's Playground’ is an ensemble heavily influenced by electronic music with whom Tom has performed at Hootananny Brixton, The Southbank Centre, Shambala and Boom Town festivals.
In his own music Tom uses a range of electronic and compositional devices to explore new dimensions for the cello. In addition to performing as a soloist and with other musicians, he has collaborated with visual artists and contemporary dancers.
